The crew from Beaver Forestry of Salem, OR puts a sawed tree back together. Yes, you read that right. During the advance of the Booth fire, this fallen Ponderosa Pine was sawed to clear a direct path to draw a fireline beyond. Now, as part of returning this emergency trail toward its original non-trail condition, the crew cut the tree into manageable (able to be moved by 6 persons) chunks and fit them together, requiring fine saw work. This particular crew is known for their positive attitude and energy they very willingly expend to do a job well under little direction, and obviously, their teamwork.
The rehabilitation for the wilderness areas has more stringent requirements than other areas. In designated Wilderness areas "let Nature take its course" makes for much watching and little interference, so once the racing of the fire was stopped so it would not catch lower growth that could provide ladders into the old growth canopy, smokers are not extinguished, stumpholes not dug out, etc. In line with "Leave No Trace" practices, extra care is taken to lay cut branches and trees in asthetic postitions; and all trails and camps will be made to look as much as possible like fire and mopup crews were not here.
