String Helix
was formed September of 2002 in La Grande, Oregon, when Luke McKern and Jesse Jones were auditioning for the Jazz program at Eastern Oregon University. Luke and Jesse began writing together and it wasn't long before they had compiled a wealth of Guitar-Mandolin duets. Their music is influenced by classical, acoustic, and ethnic music.

For the rhythm section they were fortunate to begin working the Jazz and Classical bassist Jack Niedermann. The diversity of the band was further expanded when they were joined on percussion by classical pianists, Yukiko Fujii, Miki Shibata, and Mikko Goodall. With thoughtful arrangements, strong vocals, unique instrumentation, and quality musicianship String Helix has been winning over audiences throughout the Northwest.
